MY EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

I hold a B.S. in Animal & Poultry Sciences from Virginia Tech and an M.S. in Animal Science focusing on Equine Nutrition from the University of Tennessee. My graduate research centered on equine nutrition and metabolic physiology, with an emphasis on how nutrition influences metabolic function and recovery. This work provided a deeper understanding of how diet impacts the horse at both the cellular and whole-horse level, allowing me to approach each case with both scientific precision and practical insight. I am also a certified Professional Animal Scientist (PAS) through the American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists, reflecting my commitment to continued education, ethical practice, and evidence-based consulting.

In addition to research, I have experience as a university-level Equine Nutrition Short Course Educator, Master Horse Program Instructor, and Graduate Teaching Assistant, where I developed the ability to translate complex science into practical, applicable guidance. My work also extends to facility-level management, including pasture establishment and revitalization, rotational grazing, soil health, heavy-use area design, and responsible manure and carcass composting. Together, this background allows me to develop nutrition and management strategies that are scientifically sound, environmentally aware, and realistic for everyday application.

MORE ABOUT ME

I grew up and continue to live in East Tennessee, where my involvement in the horse industry began through a local barn and the Tennessee 4-H Horse Project. My early experiences shaped my commitment to thoughtful horsemanship, responsible management, and horse-centered decision making, ultimately leading me to pursue a career in equine nutrition.

Stable Science was built alongside my husband, Alex, whose support and shared vision helped bring the business to life. From the beginning, we’ve believed that nutrition is fundamental to a horse’s health, comfort, and long-term quality of life, regardless of discipline or workload, and that principle continues to guide every recommendation we make.

I am a lifelong equestrian with experience across hunter, western, ranch, and reining disciplines, and currently compete on the Quarter Horse and hunter circuits with my horse, Theo. My continued involvement as both a competitor and horse owner gives me firsthand insight into the challenges of balancing performance goals, horse welfare, budgeting, and daily management. This perspective allows me to create nutrition strategies that are not only science-based, but practical, adaptable, and tailored to each horse’s unique needs, all with the goal of improving health and quality of life through strong nutritional foundations.
